Special Education
Raising a child with special needs can be extrememly difficult. The local school district may have a responsibility to help you meet his challenge. If your child is receiving special education services, or you feel they should be, and you do not believe these services are appropriate or are being properly administered, please contact my office, I may be able to help.
In the early stages of your child's journey through special education you may feel overwhelmed and outnumbered at the meetings that determine your childs future. I can act as an advocate, helping you voice your concerns and desires for your child in Individualized Education Program (IEP) and 504 Plan meetings. Having an advocate at these meetings helps even the balance of power between the parents and the school system at these meetings and often provides a sense of wellbeing for many parents.
If the negotiation process employed during these meetings fails to result in your child recieving the education you believe the law demnds the school provides, I can help litigate your case through the Due Process Hearing process. Successfully taking on a school system in this process requires not only an understanding of the rules and regulations, but also the educational implications and nuances of the testimony provided by the various expert witnesses. Having an attorney with experience in these procedings at your side is a great benefit.
